The Western Coachwhip ranges throughout the western two-thirds of Texas, adjucant northern Mexico, eastern New Mexico, western Oklahoma, and parts of Colorado and Kansas. This large, harmless, sleek and extremely fast moving snake is active during daylight hours. The Western Coachwhip reaches an average adult length of 42 to 60 inches with a record size of 80 inches. They feed mainly on small rodents, birds, lizards, other snakes and as the above photo demonstrates larger ones may occasionally take rabbits.
