The Rough Earth Snake is a small harmless species found throughout much of the southern United States, including the eastern half of Texas. Adults usually are from 7 to 10 inches in length and the record length for this species is 12 ¾ inches. This highly secretive species is seldom found above ground except for immediately after heavy rains. They feed mainly on earthworms.
