THE VENOMOUS SNAKES OF TEXAS and our snake identification program has made several thousand snake identifications for people throughout Texas and in other states since our web site first went on-line in 1997. We provide the site and assist people in identifying snakes as a free public service with the goal of educating people about these unique creatures and thereby reducing the unwarranted and unnecessary wholesale killing of many harmless snakes. This has become a labor of love project for us over the years. While we have always made these many snake identifications free of charge, there are costs associated with the operation of the web site and a great many man hours involved in managing the site and responding to the many requests for idetification that we receive.
